Visual impairment awareness training Visual impairment awareness training [ homepage > services > VIAT > ]

Do you or your colleagues meet or assist blind and partially sighted people?

Do you know how to make “reasonable adjustments” in your service as required by the Disability Discrimination Act?

Our training courses enable you to understand the requirements of visually impaired people, including people who are deafblind. The courses have been designed by specialists, including people who are visually impaired. The length, content of the course and our teaching methods can be adapted to your requirements. Most participants favour a practically based approach, which enables them to develop their skills and knowledge. Here is an example of the Aims and Objectives of a sample course:

Aim Aim

To enable participants to understand the requirements of people who have a visual impairment.

Objectives Objectives

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

2. Explain how to assist a person who has a visual impairment to make best use of any residual vision.

3. Demonstrate how to communicate appropriately.

4. Demonstrate how to guide a person who has a visual impairment.

5. Explain how to make an environment more accessible and safer for visually impaired people.

6. Describe the specialist services and equipment which are available to people who have a visual impairment.
